Easter Weekend

We started off the weekend with Brad planting a mini orchard in our front lawn.
We had a blessed and fun filled Easter weekend with the family. My mother-in-law, Sue, came into town to visit and help us with some landscaping, as well as spend time with the grandkids. Our days were jammed packed with work and activities, but we enjoyed the weekend she visited by taking her to the Tulip Festival in Skagit Valley, dying eggs, and having our own makeshift hunt at the house. She also took Maddy to Chcuky Cheese.

Jaxson got to try dying his eggs first, which was super fun. Lindsey, my sister, texted me an idea of putting the egg into a whisk for Mr. Man to make less of a mess, and it worked, for the most part. Maddy helped out a lot.
Helping dye the eggs.
Loving the whisk idea for Jax's first go-round.

Maddy did most of the dying and decorating. We got a glitter egg package, which I don't think was the best idea in retrospect, but they turned out fine once complete. Just a bit of a glitter mess.

Adding the glitter.

Then, Good Friday, Madelynne got the nerve to finally pierce her ears. This has been a lingering debate and big deal in our house for several months. She knew I had gotten mine done when I was 5, so she decided to jump at this opportunity with Grandma Sue visiting. Nervous and scared, she did fine. The tears happened after it was done and over with.
She remained brave until the bitter end. :)

As a treat and to reward her bravery, we took her to Chuck E Cheese. Grandma had already promised to take her there, but this was icing on the cake for the start to her break.

Sweet Jaxson with Grandma Sue

He tried to be a part of the air hockey tournament between Maddy and I.

I love this picture of these two because it has Brad's traits illuminated here: His "Elvis" lip on Jax and the sweet toothless smile on Maddy.

He loved the train ride.

Brad loves the "whack a mole" game best. It gives him practice for the reality of the moles in our yard.
She was dying to have Papa on this game.
SkeeBall will always be a favorite of mine.
Jax entertained himself with the game card.
After a busy Friday afternooon/evening, we ventured to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. This was the third time I've been, but the first for Brad's mom. Lucky for us, the weather cooperated. We ended up checking out Tulip Town over Rozengarde. To be honest, Rozengarde is better and has a much prettier garden layout. We then ventured to La Connor, a town along the channel that we had not visited before and enjoyed walking around, looking at shops, and having lunch.

Cool Kites at Tulip Town

Saw this and it immediately made me think of the movie, BIG where Tom Hanks makes the wish to be big on the fortune telling machine on the Jersey Boardwalk.

She loved jumping in the mud and puddles, as always.

Threatening rain, but it didn't deter our visit to La Connor. This is along the waterfront.

Grandma Sue and Maddy.

She thought she'd be funny waiting under the sandwich board sign outside the restaurant.
Like her mom, mini photographer taking pics on Papa's phone.

Interesting sculptures along the waterfront.

Workers returning to the fields after lunch.

On fire.
Stand out.

He is such a ham.

Easter Sunday was spent at home, where the kids had their own Easter hunt in the front yard, and got some awesome treats from the Easter Bunny. I think Maddy had fun hiding and rehiding the eggs the following day, really, with Grandma Sue. She did this countless times and had a blast. We attended mass and went out to dinner to celebrate both Easter and Sue's birthday.

Liked the eggs you could color on. So cool!

For the future's not ours to see...

There is so much going on in our world today that is negative. I get irritated with watching the news and seeing such drama the media portrays. I never really paid that much attention to it until I had Madelynne and then everything changed about my perception of the world. It is scary, out there, when all you want to do is shelter and protect your little one. Maybe I am coming to the terms with growing older and realizing that life on this great planet is limited and to make the most of it. Being a SAH mom has really caused me to think and reflect on so many different things. It hasn’t always been sweet, happy thoughts, either. I know a few weeks ago I was really concerned for the end of the world and for my daughter and future generations that have to endure such drastic changes that will continue to occur over time. I find myself getting caught up with questions about my faith and my journey as a Christian and feeling lost and not knowing who to turn to or talk to about such conflict...

Just B

In teaching poetry and preparing my kiddos this week for their poetry presentations, we watched a few spoken word poets via pre-selected versions on YouTube. One video that stood out the most was from the 2012 TED talks from spoken word poet, Sarah Kay. The poem is a perfect depiction of having a child and advice that a mother wants to carry on to her daughter...If you have an opportunity, I'd check it out on YouTube and just watch the "If I should have a daughter" or the title of the poem is "B". Sifting through the poem, I extracted a few of my favorite quotes and a few recent pictures of Madelynne to accompany them. Enjoy.  "...Because there’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away" (Sarah Kay, TED Talks, 2012).  “...Remember, your Mama is a worrier, and your Papa is a warrior, and you are the girl with small hands and big eyes who never stops asking f...

It's the End of December, as we know it...

I forgot all about November...Not really. I just have had no time between the end of October and this point before Christmas. I finally found some "time", between the transition of Winter Break and the holidays. I do not feel caught up with the demands of life, by any means, but I am grateful for a few moments of sweet reflection to update the blog. November, as the early parts of December, have been busy! Grammy Sue flew out from Indianapolis for Thanksgiving, and she spent some quality time with Maddy. We made a weekend trip to Victoria, B.C., so Sue could enjoy Canada. It was fun walking around the city, and enjoying some of the holiday festivities they had planned. They had a light parade go through downtown, so we sat along the road and enjoyed watching the numerous floats sponsored by local businesses, aglow and decorated with holiday and Christmas decor. Some older women sat next to us and fawned over Madelynne and every chance they could, made sure those handing out...
