Oregon Coast

We parted ways with my parents and Brad, the kids, and I headed north, back home, along highway 101. Other than not being the sharpest tool in the shed (note to self---call and reserve campsites WAY in advance, because there was no room in the inn at some of the major places to camp), we enjoyed the trip up the coast, stopping and taking in some touristy spots and once again, enjoying the cool weather.

We stayed near the Sand Dunes, which was a ton of fun. Brad was on the fence about it, but once we were there, and he had a chance to watch some ATVs in action, he thought it was pretty cool.

We definitely didn't get sick of our pit stops along the coast to enjoy the oceanic views.

We even fell into some "tourist" traps, that we couldn't quite pass up.

While we had trouble finding camping, we lucked out at Sandlakes Recreation Area and was able to get a camp spot for the night. The true "Rodents of Unusual Size" were invasive squirrels at our campsite. The weather was cool and overcast and the ocean made a perfect sound machine in the near distance that night.

I love a good Waxwing pic. They were visitors to our camp during the day.

We ended the vacation with a lunch near Seaside, OR and then visited Cape Disappointment, before heading home to a smokey hue and haze from fires burning in B.C. We loved our trip up the coast and can't wait for our next family adventure. :)

Cape Alava Camping Adventure!

We are definitely trying to make the most of our time in Washington and since the weather has been gradually warming up, with beautiful blue skies and sunshine, we cannot resist getting outside. And, because hiking is free and camping is pretty inexpensive, we have been doing A LOT of it lately. Granted, our excursion to Oregon was not cheap, it was still a pretty inexpensive weekend getaway and worth the drive! In her new hiking pack Cape Alava at high tide Crossing a bridge We discovered one place, though, called Cape Alava, via one of our trail/hiking books. We went out last weekend, and it is a good 3 mile hike to the coast, from Lake Ozette, and then another 3 mile hike back to the parking area, (so 6 round trip). The loop itself, to Sand Point, is 9 miles total. We got there when tide was fairly high, so we didn't travel down the coast too far, as you can make a complete loop (3 miles down the beach and then another 3 miles on a second trail, that splits at th...

Updates and Such

It's been sometime since I last updated the blog, but figured I better get on it. The school year is in full swing and we've been busy, as usual doing all the things we do between parenting, enjoying our weekends, and routine. No major projects are holding us back this year, so we've been trying to soak up every ounce of the ending seasons as we can. Fall was slow to start here, but her beauty and glory haven't left and I am sure will stick around well into November. That is the fortunate part of the PACNW. Here are the highlights up to this point: August Jax started Preschool and Maddy is in the 3rd grade. So far, they are doing well. Jax loves going to school and is always eager when he gets to "ride the bus to Maddy's school." Here are their annual school pics: Jumping into 3rd Grade September We enjoyed a few adventures, from hiking, whale watching, and camping. We camped at our favorite spot along the Strait...

Bearing With Me

We aren’t getting an opportunity to travel this summer, but we’re making the best of our staycation in beautiful Washington. Honestly, there is so much to explore in our state and even on our Peninsula, I don’t think we will ever be bored of finding something magical and interesting to see or do. Our family motto is, “it’s always an adventure” and sometimes, even the smallest adventure turns into a story of a lifetime. My daughter has been fascinated with the stars and space since she was five and wanted a telescope for her birthday one year. I suggested to her that we drive up Hurricane Ridge early morning to let me practice some astrophotography, as well as catch the sunrise. She was excited about seeing Neowise, the comet that is gracing us with its presence in the month of July. The last comet I recall seeing was Hale Bop, back in 1997. I remember driving across the open plains of Wyoming with my parents, who were actually en route to a couple of job interviews and leaving u...
