Jumping July

The rest of June went by too fast and here we are into the end of July. We have been busy most of the summer with swim lessons, summer camps, and time spent with friends. Highlight, though, is the proud moment she took off on her bike without training wheels! For her birthday, she got a new bike from Brad and I, but it was quite a proud moment as indicated by the first pic below.

Our 4th of July weekend ended up being pretty busy, but tons of fun. Lots of family-friend cookouts and get together's and a momentous watching the fireworks at our "spot" with our core group of friends. We also marched in the 4th of July parade down town Pt. Angeles, which was fun for Maddy, since she seemed to know everyone. It was quite comical. I also tried out a technique called Focus Blur and was pretty stoked with the artistic turn out of the fireworks pictures I took. It was fun!

She wanted her arm painted over her face.

Other adventures have led us on lazy day hikes to the lake, berry picking, discovering and geocaching in Pt. Townsend, and hanging out at home. The past two weeks have officially peaked nicer weather, so swimming in the backyard pool and going on a four day camping trip have been top priorities. Plus, the canoe journeys had the tribes and first nations of the area landing on Hollywood Beach last week en route to Nisqually, so we went down to witness their landings and meet friends there, too.

Updates and Such

It's been sometime since I last updated the blog, but figured I better get on it. The school year is in full swing and we've been busy, as usual doing all the things we do between parenting, enjoying our weekends, and routine. No major projects are holding us back this year, so we've been trying to soak up every ounce of the ending seasons as we can. Fall was slow to start here, but her beauty and glory haven't left and I am sure will stick around well into November. That is the fortunate part of the PACNW. Here are the highlights up to this point: August Jax started Preschool and Maddy is in the 3rd grade. So far, they are doing well. Jax loves going to school and is always eager when he gets to "ride the bus to Maddy's school." Here are their annual school pics: Jumping into 3rd Grade September We enjoyed a few adventures, from hiking, whale watching, and camping. We camped at our favorite spot along the Strait...

Cape Alava Camping Adventure!

We are definitely trying to make the most of our time in Washington and since the weather has been gradually warming up, with beautiful blue skies and sunshine, we cannot resist getting outside. And, because hiking is free and camping is pretty inexpensive, we have been doing A LOT of it lately. Granted, our excursion to Oregon was not cheap, it was still a pretty inexpensive weekend getaway and worth the drive! In her new hiking pack Cape Alava at high tide Crossing a bridge We discovered one place, though, called Cape Alava, via one of our trail/hiking books. We went out last weekend, and it is a good 3 mile hike to the coast, from Lake Ozette, and then another 3 mile hike back to the parking area, (so 6 round trip). The loop itself, to Sand Point, is 9 miles total. We got there when tide was fairly high, so we didn't travel down the coast too far, as you can make a complete loop (3 miles down the beach and then another 3 miles on a second trail, that splits at th...

For the future's not ours to see...

There is so much going on in our world today that is negative. I get irritated with watching the news and seeing such drama the media portrays. I never really paid that much attention to it until I had Madelynne and then everything changed about my perception of the world. It is scary, out there, when all you want to do is shelter and protect your little one. Maybe I am coming to the terms with growing older and realizing that life on this great planet is limited and to make the most of it. Being a SAH mom has really caused me to think and reflect on so many different things. It hasn’t always been sweet, happy thoughts, either. I know a few weeks ago I was really concerned for the end of the world and for my daughter and future generations that have to endure such drastic changes that will continue to occur over time. I find myself getting caught up with questions about my faith and my journey as a Christian and feeling lost and not knowing who to turn to or talk to about such conflict...
