"Teachers affect eternity; no one can tell where their influence stops." ~Hnery Brooks Adams

Raising a child far away from family is a difficult task, let alone finding a suitable care provider during the day while you are at work. It is hard to trust people in general and it is hard enough when you're on your own trying to find the best suited place for your child. I was lucky enough to find Teacher Becca and will forever be grateful for the love she showed our child, and all the children in her care, the past  two years. I have a very close friend, Denise, to thank for the "hook up", and her expertise has always been spot on.

It's hard to put into words how much someone means to you and how much their love, compassion, and patience is valued. Becca is a beautiful person inside and out and she loves her family as much as she loves each of the children that have been in her care. Madelynne learned so much about other cultures, learned some French, can sight read her letters, and just has a kind, caring soul all because of the values Teacher Becca instilled in her during her time At A Child's Pace.

Not to mention, these kiddos have an undescribable bond. Seeing them all together, laughing, hugging, and playing is a pretty special treat. Becca communicated to the kiddos, to the families, via texts with pictures of their days, posts to her Facebook page, and more. It made me, as a mom, exhale with relief to know that Madelynne was in such good  hands.

In honor of Teacher Becca, we hosted a Next Chapter Celebration Party. I know that whatever she does in her next adventure, that God will provide her with strength and her light will shine wherever life takes her. I hope the bonds our kiddos have all created will remain as strong in years to come, even if they don't always see each other on a daily basis.

Listen to the MUSTN’TS, child.
Listen to the DON’TS
Listen to the SHOULDN’TS
The IMPOSSIBLES, the WON’TS
Listen to the NEVER HAVES
Then listen close to me-
Anything can happen, child,
ANYTHING can be.”

Cape Alava Camping Adventure!

We are definitely trying to make the most of our time in Washington and since the weather has been gradually warming up, with beautiful blue skies and sunshine, we cannot resist getting outside. And, because hiking is free and camping is pretty inexpensive, we have been doing A LOT of it lately. Granted, our excursion to Oregon was not cheap, it was still a pretty inexpensive weekend getaway and worth the drive! In her new hiking pack Cape Alava at high tide Crossing a bridge We discovered one place, though, called Cape Alava, via one of our trail/hiking books. We went out last weekend, and it is a good 3 mile hike to the coast, from Lake Ozette, and then another 3 mile hike back to the parking area, (so 6 round trip). The loop itself, to Sand Point, is 9 miles total. We got there when tide was fairly high, so we didn't travel down the coast too far, as you can make a complete loop (3 miles down the beach and then another 3 miles on a second trail, that splits at th...

Updates and Such

It's been sometime since I last updated the blog, but figured I better get on it. The school year is in full swing and we've been busy, as usual doing all the things we do between parenting, enjoying our weekends, and routine. No major projects are holding us back this year, so we've been trying to soak up every ounce of the ending seasons as we can. Fall was slow to start here, but her beauty and glory haven't left and I am sure will stick around well into November. That is the fortunate part of the PACNW. Here are the highlights up to this point: August Jax started Preschool and Maddy is in the 3rd grade. So far, they are doing well. Jax loves going to school and is always eager when he gets to "ride the bus to Maddy's school." Here are their annual school pics: Jumping into 3rd Grade September We enjoyed a few adventures, from hiking, whale watching, and camping. We camped at our favorite spot along the Strait...

Bearing With Me

We aren’t getting an opportunity to travel this summer, but we’re making the best of our staycation in beautiful Washington. Honestly, there is so much to explore in our state and even on our Peninsula, I don’t think we will ever be bored of finding something magical and interesting to see or do. Our family motto is, “it’s always an adventure” and sometimes, even the smallest adventure turns into a story of a lifetime. My daughter has been fascinated with the stars and space since she was five and wanted a telescope for her birthday one year. I suggested to her that we drive up Hurricane Ridge early morning to let me practice some astrophotography, as well as catch the sunrise. She was excited about seeing Neowise, the comet that is gracing us with its presence in the month of July. The last comet I recall seeing was Hale Bop, back in 1997. I remember driving across the open plains of Wyoming with my parents, who were actually en route to a couple of job interviews and leaving u...
