Slipping Through Time

Here we are, deep into the changing  moments of fall, and into the heart of the school year. I have been so invovled with work and family, my photography and journaling updates on the blog have fallen wayside. However, I finally made the time to update, so a few new posts will showcase our busy lives out here in beautiful Washington.

I'm going to start with Maddy because we all know she is often the highlight of my posts. But what proud mama doesn't want to boast about their little one? She has really grown up the past few months and I can see the changes really taking place in her eagerness to learn and questions around what she wants to know on the world around her. She is funny and our conversations are imaginative. She is growing into her own little person and she loves...boy does she love. We left the Froyo place Saturday and she said, "that girl in there...I just love her." Who says that? :) She also has a bit of an advanced edge in reading, as her wonderful preschool teacher, Becca, said she's showing signs at 3 that she's ready. That's pretty awesome.

She took up ballet this fall, because I was late at getting her signed up for soccer. But she likes it. At first, she wasn't into it, but she is gradually learning to follow directions and do what the teacher says, rather than be distracted by the other girls in her class. And she comes home and dances around and sings. She makes up songs, she sings to her babies...she is such a joy. Capturing these moments are like hidden treasures in my sweet world of treasured memories. Small moments of sweetness amidst the impatience that I just reflect on when I am in a mood.

So here are some pics of her the past few months. Hopefully I will get some new pics up after Halloween, but it may be awhile.

Until next time...

Cape Alava Camping Adventure!

We are definitely trying to make the most of our time in Washington and since the weather has been gradually warming up, with beautiful blue skies and sunshine, we cannot resist getting outside. And, because hiking is free and camping is pretty inexpensive, we have been doing A LOT of it lately. Granted, our excursion to Oregon was not cheap, it was still a pretty inexpensive weekend getaway and worth the drive! In her new hiking pack Cape Alava at high tide Crossing a bridge We discovered one place, though, called Cape Alava, via one of our trail/hiking books. We went out last weekend, and it is a good 3 mile hike to the coast, from Lake Ozette, and then another 3 mile hike back to the parking area, (so 6 round trip). The loop itself, to Sand Point, is 9 miles total. We got there when tide was fairly high, so we didn't travel down the coast too far, as you can make a complete loop (3 miles down the beach and then another 3 miles on a second trail, that splits at th...

Updates and Such

It's been sometime since I last updated the blog, but figured I better get on it. The school year is in full swing and we've been busy, as usual doing all the things we do between parenting, enjoying our weekends, and routine. No major projects are holding us back this year, so we've been trying to soak up every ounce of the ending seasons as we can. Fall was slow to start here, but her beauty and glory haven't left and I am sure will stick around well into November. That is the fortunate part of the PACNW. Here are the highlights up to this point: August Jax started Preschool and Maddy is in the 3rd grade. So far, they are doing well. Jax loves going to school and is always eager when he gets to "ride the bus to Maddy's school." Here are their annual school pics: Jumping into 3rd Grade September We enjoyed a few adventures, from hiking, whale watching, and camping. We camped at our favorite spot along the Strait...

Bearing With Me

We aren’t getting an opportunity to travel this summer, but we’re making the best of our staycation in beautiful Washington. Honestly, there is so much to explore in our state and even on our Peninsula, I don’t think we will ever be bored of finding something magical and interesting to see or do. Our family motto is, “it’s always an adventure” and sometimes, even the smallest adventure turns into a story of a lifetime. My daughter has been fascinated with the stars and space since she was five and wanted a telescope for her birthday one year. I suggested to her that we drive up Hurricane Ridge early morning to let me practice some astrophotography, as well as catch the sunrise. She was excited about seeing Neowise, the comet that is gracing us with its presence in the month of July. The last comet I recall seeing was Hale Bop, back in 1997. I remember driving across the open plains of Wyoming with my parents, who were actually en route to a couple of job interviews and leaving u...
