New Year's Trip!

Since our trip to Florida for Christmas fell through, and we have decided to venture there for Spring Break, we decided that it would be a good opportunity for me to go to Colorado and enjoy some time with my family, as I won't see them until summer. We debated on all kinds of ways to get there and finally settled on a pretty inexpensive plane ticket through Priceline. We lucked out, for sure!

Needless to say, Madelynne and I had a GREAT time. She did end up getting a stomach bug that lasted a whole 12 hours, and somehow it bypassed me. But I am OK with that. She was not happy about the fact that she was throwing up, and it ended up being a cuddle-with-mom kind of day. It worked out because I was able to get some grading done and work on my PhD stuff, while she watched cartoons and dozed in and out of sleep.

We ventured to Buena Vista after dad and I watched Damion at Ta Kwan Do. He does a great job and is very focused on doing his absolute best.

We surprised mom---she had no idea that Damion was coming. We just told her that Damion's dad was not letting him go. The look on her face when Damion came up from behind her and hugged her, was priceless...She was so thrilled. Because mom and dad have to run a clinic, Damion, Maddy, and I spent some quality time together, playing with some of Damion's life-like bugs and creating the craziest, most imaginative games with them.

We ventured out to several places during our visit. Dad and I took Damion out to shoot his BB gun, but he napped while dad and I shot a few of my dad's guns, (which I had never done before). We took a drive through the mountains and had lunch in Vail. We did some geocaching, which Damion loves. And we partied it up on New Year's Eve at a church party, where I was the DJ. Nothing like drinking a few glasses of wine, playing a few decades of music, and dancing the night away.

We stayed in Buena Vista until Thursday night and then ventured back to Denver, where Maddy and I stayed a few extra days with Uncle Joe and Aunt Lindsey. Aunt Lindsey painted Maddy's fingernails and enjoyed playing with stacking cups. She sure does have a special bond with Damion, that is for sure. We are already in plans for a summer visit, and Damion is hoping for some more geocaching. Can't come soon enough!

Updates and Such

It's been sometime since I last updated the blog, but figured I better get on it. The school year is in full swing and we've been busy, as usual doing all the things we do between parenting, enjoying our weekends, and routine. No major projects are holding us back this year, so we've been trying to soak up every ounce of the ending seasons as we can. Fall was slow to start here, but her beauty and glory haven't left and I am sure will stick around well into November. That is the fortunate part of the PACNW. Here are the highlights up to this point: August Jax started Preschool and Maddy is in the 3rd grade. So far, they are doing well. Jax loves going to school and is always eager when he gets to "ride the bus to Maddy's school." Here are their annual school pics: Jumping into 3rd Grade September We enjoyed a few adventures, from hiking, whale watching, and camping. We camped at our favorite spot along the Strait...

For the future's not ours to see...

There is so much going on in our world today that is negative. I get irritated with watching the news and seeing such drama the media portrays. I never really paid that much attention to it until I had Madelynne and then everything changed about my perception of the world. It is scary, out there, when all you want to do is shelter and protect your little one. Maybe I am coming to the terms with growing older and realizing that life on this great planet is limited and to make the most of it. Being a SAH mom has really caused me to think and reflect on so many different things. It hasn’t always been sweet, happy thoughts, either. I know a few weeks ago I was really concerned for the end of the world and for my daughter and future generations that have to endure such drastic changes that will continue to occur over time. I find myself getting caught up with questions about my faith and my journey as a Christian and feeling lost and not knowing who to turn to or talk to about such conflict...

Cape Alava Camping Adventure!

We are definitely trying to make the most of our time in Washington and since the weather has been gradually warming up, with beautiful blue skies and sunshine, we cannot resist getting outside. And, because hiking is free and camping is pretty inexpensive, we have been doing A LOT of it lately. Granted, our excursion to Oregon was not cheap, it was still a pretty inexpensive weekend getaway and worth the drive! In her new hiking pack Cape Alava at high tide Crossing a bridge We discovered one place, though, called Cape Alava, via one of our trail/hiking books. We went out last weekend, and it is a good 3 mile hike to the coast, from Lake Ozette, and then another 3 mile hike back to the parking area, (so 6 round trip). The loop itself, to Sand Point, is 9 miles total. We got there when tide was fairly high, so we didn't travel down the coast too far, as you can make a complete loop (3 miles down the beach and then another 3 miles on a second trail, that splits at th...
