Easter Weekend

We started off the weekend with Brad planting a mini orchard in our front lawn.
We had a blessed and fun filled Easter weekend with the family. My mother-in-law, Sue, came into town to visit and help us with some landscaping, as well as spend time with the grandkids. Our days were jammed packed with work and activities, but we enjoyed the weekend she visited by taking her to the Tulip Festival in Skagit Valley, dying eggs, and having our own makeshift hunt at the house. She also took Maddy to Chcuky Cheese.

Jaxson got to try dying his eggs first, which was super fun. Lindsey, my sister, texted me an idea of putting the egg into a whisk for Mr. Man to make less of a mess, and it worked, for the most part. Maddy helped out a lot.
Helping dye the eggs.
Loving the whisk idea for Jax's first go-round.

Maddy did most of the dying and decorating. We got a glitter egg package, which I don't think was the best idea in retrospect, but they turned out fine once complete. Just a bit of a glitter mess.

Adding the glitter.

Then, Good Friday, Madelynne got the nerve to finally pierce her ears. This has been a lingering debate and big deal in our house for several months. She knew I had gotten mine done when I was 5, so she decided to jump at this opportunity with Grandma Sue visiting. Nervous and scared, she did fine. The tears happened after it was done and over with.
She remained brave until the bitter end. :)

As a treat and to reward her bravery, we took her to Chuck E Cheese. Grandma had already promised to take her there, but this was icing on the cake for the start to her break.

Sweet Jaxson with Grandma Sue

He tried to be a part of the air hockey tournament between Maddy and I.

I love this picture of these two because it has Brad's traits illuminated here: His "Elvis" lip on Jax and the sweet toothless smile on Maddy.

He loved the train ride.

Brad loves the "whack a mole" game best. It gives him practice for the reality of the moles in our yard.
She was dying to have Papa on this game.
SkeeBall will always be a favorite of mine.
Jax entertained himself with the game card.
After a busy Friday afternooon/evening, we ventured to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. This was the third time I've been, but the first for Brad's mom. Lucky for us, the weather cooperated. We ended up checking out Tulip Town over Rozengarde. To be honest, Rozengarde is better and has a much prettier garden layout. We then ventured to La Connor, a town along the channel that we had not visited before and enjoyed walking around, looking at shops, and having lunch.

Cool Kites at Tulip Town

Saw this and it immediately made me think of the movie, BIG where Tom Hanks makes the wish to be big on the fortune telling machine on the Jersey Boardwalk.

She loved jumping in the mud and puddles, as always.

Threatening rain, but it didn't deter our visit to La Connor. This is along the waterfront.

Grandma Sue and Maddy.

She thought she'd be funny waiting under the sandwich board sign outside the restaurant.
Like her mom, mini photographer taking pics on Papa's phone.

Interesting sculptures along the waterfront.

Workers returning to the fields after lunch.

On fire.
Stand out.

He is such a ham.

Easter Sunday was spent at home, where the kids had their own Easter hunt in the front yard, and got some awesome treats from the Easter Bunny. I think Maddy had fun hiding and rehiding the eggs the following day, really, with Grandma Sue. She did this countless times and had a blast. We attended mass and went out to dinner to celebrate both Easter and Sue's birthday.

Liked the eggs you could color on. So cool!

Updates and Such

It's been sometime since I last updated the blog, but figured I better get on it. The school year is in full swing and we've been busy, as usual doing all the things we do between parenting, enjoying our weekends, and routine. No major projects are holding us back this year, so we've been trying to soak up every ounce of the ending seasons as we can. Fall was slow to start here, but her beauty and glory haven't left and I am sure will stick around well into November. That is the fortunate part of the PACNW. Here are the highlights up to this point: August Jax started Preschool and Maddy is in the 3rd grade. So far, they are doing well. Jax loves going to school and is always eager when he gets to "ride the bus to Maddy's school." Here are their annual school pics: Jumping into 3rd Grade September We enjoyed a few adventures, from hiking, whale watching, and camping. We camped at our favorite spot along the Strait...

For the future's not ours to see...

There is so much going on in our world today that is negative. I get irritated with watching the news and seeing such drama the media portrays. I never really paid that much attention to it until I had Madelynne and then everything changed about my perception of the world. It is scary, out there, when all you want to do is shelter and protect your little one. Maybe I am coming to the terms with growing older and realizing that life on this great planet is limited and to make the most of it. Being a SAH mom has really caused me to think and reflect on so many different things. It hasn’t always been sweet, happy thoughts, either. I know a few weeks ago I was really concerned for the end of the world and for my daughter and future generations that have to endure such drastic changes that will continue to occur over time. I find myself getting caught up with questions about my faith and my journey as a Christian and feeling lost and not knowing who to turn to or talk to about such conflict...

To thy own self be true

Dear Baby Schroeder: There is something you need to know about your mom and dad, and you will probably realize this as you grow up, too. We are crazy and adventurous, and life never ceases to surprise us. Hopefully, in the next two or three years, when you’re finding your groove and getting settled into this world, we will be settled some place and not be bouncing around like nomads. By that time, we hope to be debt free, so we can take you to all the places we want to go, and where you will be old enough to remember it all. In honor of Polonius from Hamlet , (yes, your mom’s favorite Shakespearean play), If I could give you some advice, as to avoid the mistakes your father and I have made, it would be this: 1.        Always follow your gut instinct. Easier said than done, but if something doesn’t feel right, then listen to that voice inside you that says so. It’s usually right. 2.        Trust only a select few. I really ho...
