"And it feels like summer..."

Now we're into the thick of it and things are rolling right along. We've had a mini heat wave (it was 86 this afternoon) and have enjoyed blue skies and summer sunshine. This gave Maddy and I the perfect opportunity to test out the pool (much warmer today than yesterday, for sure!), go on lengthy bike rides to the park for their free summer lunches, join friends at the Dungeness, pick strawberries at  Graysmarsh Farms, explore new beaches, and get signed up at the local library for their summer reading program. Jaxson had to deal with a dumb virus that basically had him down for a few days of nothing but Mr. Cuddles and Fever Breaker. But otherwise, here we are! This will probably be the last post until August, when we get back from our annual trip to visit Grandma and Grandpa. Looking forward to seeing them in a few short weeks. Here's some highlights of summer so far.

He ate more of the strawberries than picked them.

She always finds the best ones.

How we spent a lot of time Thursday and Friday, since he was battling a bug.

Practicing her floating in the pool.

Love the light from the stairwell.

Beach exploring at sunset.

Begging on his tip toes.

Cruisin' around the house on his motorbike.

I bought a bubble machine. Best $30 of my life. :)

Babies make squatting look so dang easy.

Used to be sis's, so she opted to show him how to ride it.

Look at me! I'm walking now!

Look on his face says it all.

New, secluded beach we found.

How he rolls in the tula.

Black and white gorgeous light.

Because having a sister means stickers on the face.

Nap time.

Walking!

Desperate to be outside with the big kids.

Brushing teeth: reality of our everyday.

Bubble machine fun

She was excited that mom let her make a huge mess.

Her cherry juice face.

Cherry mess and missing tooth smile.

Exploring our secluded beach.

Watching the sunset near the spit.

Crusing around the kitchen next.

Ice cream sandwich and "pretend I'm a holding a drink" she says.

Cape Alava Camping Adventure!

We are definitely trying to make the most of our time in Washington and since the weather has been gradually warming up, with beautiful blue skies and sunshine, we cannot resist getting outside. And, because hiking is free and camping is pretty inexpensive, we have been doing A LOT of it lately. Granted, our excursion to Oregon was not cheap, it was still a pretty inexpensive weekend getaway and worth the drive! In her new hiking pack Cape Alava at high tide Crossing a bridge We discovered one place, though, called Cape Alava, via one of our trail/hiking books. We went out last weekend, and it is a good 3 mile hike to the coast, from Lake Ozette, and then another 3 mile hike back to the parking area, (so 6 round trip). The loop itself, to Sand Point, is 9 miles total. We got there when tide was fairly high, so we didn't travel down the coast too far, as you can make a complete loop (3 miles down the beach and then another 3 miles on a second trail, that splits at th...

Updates and Such

It's been sometime since I last updated the blog, but figured I better get on it. The school year is in full swing and we've been busy, as usual doing all the things we do between parenting, enjoying our weekends, and routine. No major projects are holding us back this year, so we've been trying to soak up every ounce of the ending seasons as we can. Fall was slow to start here, but her beauty and glory haven't left and I am sure will stick around well into November. That is the fortunate part of the PACNW. Here are the highlights up to this point: August Jax started Preschool and Maddy is in the 3rd grade. So far, they are doing well. Jax loves going to school and is always eager when he gets to "ride the bus to Maddy's school." Here are their annual school pics: Jumping into 3rd Grade September We enjoyed a few adventures, from hiking, whale watching, and camping. We camped at our favorite spot along the Strait...

To thy own self be true

Dear Baby Schroeder: There is something you need to know about your mom and dad, and you will probably realize this as you grow up, too. We are crazy and adventurous, and life never ceases to surprise us. Hopefully, in the next two or three years, when you’re finding your groove and getting settled into this world, we will be settled some place and not be bouncing around like nomads. By that time, we hope to be debt free, so we can take you to all the places we want to go, and where you will be old enough to remember it all. In honor of Polonius from Hamlet , (yes, your mom’s favorite Shakespearean play), If I could give you some advice, as to avoid the mistakes your father and I have made, it would be this: 1.        Always follow your gut instinct. Easier said than done, but if something doesn’t feel right, then listen to that voice inside you that says so. It’s usually right. 2.        Trust only a select few. I really ho...
